A 60-year-old man died and his wife was injured when their motorcycle collided with a dump truck making an illegal turn on the Ipoh-Lumut road in Perak state on the afternoon of 6/12.
Video footage shows the dump truck driver activated the right turn signal before canceling it and immediately making an illegal left turn, having already passed the designated turning point. The motorcycle, carrying the couple and traveling straight, was unable to avoid the collision, crashing into the side of the dump truck.
Police identified the dump truck driver as a 23-year-old man. The husband died at the scene, while his wife sustained a broken left leg. Initial investigations reveal the dump truck driver did not possess a valid driver's license, and both the vehicle's road tax and insurance had expired.
The incident is under investigation under Section 41(1) of Malaysia's Road Transport Act 1987, which pertains to reckless driving causing death. Conviction carries a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of up to 50,000 RM (12,000 USD).
