Market research firm Rho Motion released data on 12/11. Specifically, global sales of battery electric vehicles (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) reached 1,9 million units in October 2025, a 23% increase year-on-year.
China accounted for approximately 1,3 million of these sales, over half of the global electric vehicle total. European sales rose 36% to 372,786 vehicles. Other markets grew 37%, totaling 141,368 vehicles, indicating a spreading vehicle electrification trend.

Charles Lester, Rho Motion's Director of Data, attributed China's market growth to a rapidly shrinking price gap between electric and gasoline vehicles, enhancing consumer accessibility. Furthermore, the anticipated reduction of electric vehicle purchase tax exemptions from 100% to 50% by year-end is encouraging early purchases, significantly boosting October sales and projecting continued growth through the final two months of the year.
In Europe, experts believe Germany's partial reinstatement of electric vehicle purchase incentives, coupled with expanded EU battery production, has lowered supply chain costs and spurred consumer interest in green vehicles. The market had previously stalled when support policies ceased but quickly recovered. Meanwhile, North America saw over 100,000 units sold.
In Vietnam, VinFast maintained its lead, delivering 20,380 electric cars in October, averaging about 658 vehicles daily, pushing its year-to-date sales to nearly 125,000 units. This marks the 12th consecutive month the company has held the top position in the domestic automotive market.
Duong Thi Thu Trang, VinFast's Deputy General Director of Global Sales and Marketing, described the over 124,000 vehicles sold in ten months as "unprecedented" in Vietnam, reflecting strong user support for zero-emission vehicles. VinFast plans to deliver two new electric vehicle models, the EC Van - a small truck, and the Minio Green - a small urban vehicle, to customers in the final two months of the year.
Experts suggest VinFast's sales growth mirrors a clear shift in Vietnamese consumer preferences, with increased interest in electric vehicle safety and technology. Features like smooth driving, instant acceleration, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and multiple airbags resonate with customers.
Building on the current momentum in China, Europe, and rapid growth in emerging markets like Vietnam, the transition to green vehicles is projected to expand significantly.
