22 students selected for Asia-Pacific Mathematics Olympiad team

This year's Asia-Pacific Mathematics Olympiad team consists of 22 students, most of whom previously won first prizes in national competitions.

On the afternoon of 13/2, the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM), the unit assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training to lead the selection of students for the Asia-Pacific Mathematics Olympiad (APMO), announced the list of 22 candidates for this year.

The high schools with the most representatives are high school for the gifted Ha Noi - Amsterdam and Lam Son (Thanh Hoa), each contributing 3 students.

The team members are:

1. Nguyen Dinh Tung, grade 12, high school for the gifted, natural sciences, university of natural sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

2. Truong Thanh Xuan, grade 12, high school for the gifted Bac Ninh, Bac Ninh province.

3. Vo Sy Quoc Anh, grade 12, high school for the gifted Ha Tinh, Ha Tinh province.

4. Phan Van Cuong, grade 12, high school for the gifted, university of Vinh.

5. Tran Dai Thanh Danh, grade 12, gifted high school, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.

6. Do Anh Duc, grade 12, high school for the gifted Bac Giang, Bac Ninh province.

7. Nguyen Duc Hien, grade 11, high school for the gifted Bac Ninh, Bac Ninh province.

8. Ha Manh Hung, grade 11, high school for the gifted Ha Noi - Amsterdam, Hanoi.

9. Phan Thanh Huy, grade 12, high school for the gifted Ha Noi - Amsterdam, Hanoi.

10. Nguyen Bao Khanh, grade 11, high school for the gifted Lam Son, Thanh Hoa province.

11. Nguyen Canh Khanh, grade 12, high school for the gifted Thai Nguyen, Thai Nguyen province.

12. Le Phuc Khanh, grade 12, high school for the gifted Lam Son, Thanh Hoa province.

13. Le Vinh Ky, grade 12, high school for the gifted Lam Son, Thanh Hoa province.

16. Bui Nhat Minh, grade 10, high school for the gifted, university of education, university of education.

17. Nguyen Le Nhat Nam, grade 12, high school for the gifted, university of education, university of education.

18. Pham Dang Nguyen, grade 12, high school for the gifted Ha Noi - Amsterdam, Hanoi.

19. Nguyen Hoang Phuong, grade 11, high school for the gifted Phan Boi Chau, Nghe An province.

20. Luu Trong Phuc, grade 12, high school for the gifted Phan Boi Chau, Nghe An province.

21. Tran Anh Quan, grade 12, high school for the gifted Le Quy Don, Dien Bien province.

22. Nguyen Duy Thanh, grade 12, high school for the gifted Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho province.

Among these, Nguyen Dinh Tung and Truong Thanh Xuan competed in the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) in 2025, winning silver and bronze medals, respectively. The remaining students recently secured first prizes in the national excellent student competition for mathematics one month ago.

Vietnam is hosting APMO this year, with the competition taking place at the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics on 10/3.

The Asia-Pacific Mathematics Olympiad was first held in 1989 for high school students. Each year, about 30 countries and territories participate in APMO, with over 300 candidates in total. The exam consists of 5 problems requiring written solutions, to be completed in 4 hours.

Vietnam first participated in APMO in 1996 but has not participated in recent years.
