Hanoi Medical University (HMU) held its second admission session for more than 100 doctoral candidates on 8/12. Including the first session in late september, the university has recruited 280 doctoral candidates this year.
"This marks an impressive milestone in postgraduate education", the university stated.
On the evening of 9/12, Professor Nguyen Huu Tu, Rector of Hanoi Medical University, announced that this year's doctoral recruitment reached 86% of the university's allocated quota, the highest figure to date. Last year, the university only admitted 193 candidates, achieving 81% of its target.
Tu identified 4 reasons for this achievement. First, the university adjusted quotas to align with specific majors, specializations, and departmental supervisory capacities. Second, policies support faculty members pursuing doctoral studies, scientific research, and international publications.
Third, doctoral candidates receive support for favorable study and research conditions. Fourth, Hanoi Medical University's reputation, quality, and research environment continue to improve, attracting candidates nationwide.
Currently, one requirement for doctoral candidates at Hanoi Medical University is to have hai scientific articles published in domestic journals. According to Tu, the university is among the few training institutions with stringent output standards. Candidates must have at least mot international article in reputable scientific databases like ISI/Scopus. The Ministry of Education and Training's regulations only require publications in reputable domestic journals.

However, a doctoral degree is a standard for teaching, establishing new university departments, and qualifying for professorship and associate professorship titles.
Tuition fees for doctoral candidates in 2025 at Hanoi Medical University are 84 million VND per year (10 months) for most majors. Four majors have lower tuition fees: Epidemiology (77,75 million VND), Nutrition, Public Health, and Health Management (all 59 million VND per year).
