Tien Nguyen and Dubai husband pose with over century-old loom

Fashionista Tien Nguyen and husband Justin Cohen conducted a wedding photoshoot in ao dai alongside a loom over a century old.

Stylist Kye Nguyen stated that the bride and groom wished to tell a story about silk threads. When conceptualizing the shoot, he discussed borrowing the prop with Vu Thu Phuong, who agreed. "The lotus silk ao dai collection is not just fashion; it is also a tribute to Vietnamese heritage," he said.

Following their wedding on the evening of 7/12 in Ho Chi Minh City, the team released the couple's pre-wedding photo series. Both wore matching ao dai woven from natural silk, the same attire seen at their ancestral ceremony.

They posed beside a traditional loom, a cherished family heirloom of model Vu Thu Phuong. The loom was originally located in Ninh Binh (formerly Nam Dinh), a region renowned for its long-standing silk weaving tradition. In 2023, Vu Thu Phuong transported it to Ho Chi Minh City, where it was featured on the runway during Vietnam International Fashion Week.

Tien Nguyen posed in a traditional ao dai featuring a high collar, long sleeves, and a straight silhouette.

According to the team, combining fashion with a living artifact of traditional weaving is a way to narrate the story of past and present, of age-old craftsmanship and contemporary fashion.

The family of businessman Johnathan Hanh Nguyen and former actress Thuy Tien aimed to show their appreciation for culture. Consequently, great care was taken with their daughter's wedding attire.

The bride's ao dai, crafted by designer Minh Hanh, was made from rare lotus silk threads, meticulously created by numerous artisans. The groom Justin Cohen's outfit, designed by Le Ngoc Lam, was fashioned from silk threads sourced from a weaving workshop in Lam Dong.

The photographer positioned the subjects within carefully arranged lighting to highlight the lotus silk.

Lotus silk is a rare material, painstakingly hand-spun, known for its softness and breathability. The lotus pattern on Tien Nguyen's ao dai took one month to complete, using a multi-layer embroidery technique. Gold thread was used to accentuate details, imparting an elegant touch.
