During a TVB talk show on 8/6, actor Truong Ve Kien was asked about the gradual disappearance of his hair. Ve Kien explained that after leaving TVB in the late 1990s, he pursued career opportunities in mainland China. His roles in Qing Dynasty-era films often required him to shave his head.

It was during this period, while negotiating his fee with a producer, that Ve Kien faced a humiliating comment. The producer reportedly told him: "You're asking for such a high price, don't forget, you're nothing without hair".
This remark was a harsh reminder of the shadow cast by his popular portrayal of Sun Wukong in TVB's "Tay Du Ky" (Journey to the West). The actor admitted he felt both angry and disheartened, especially while grappling with significant financial pressures from investment losses. However, after regaining his composure, he resolved to break free from the fame of "Tay Du Ky" and forge a new identity through diverse character roles.

From that point, Truong Ve Kien intentionally kept his hair short, using it as a constant reminder to strive for excellence in his career. Over time, his bald head became an integral part of his public image and identity. The actor recently disclosed that he is preparing to film a shampoo commercial, with the brand specifically requesting him to retain his signature bald look, without wearing a wig.
Ve Kien boasts a 40-year career in the entertainment industry, having achieved widespread recognition across Asia. His notable works include: "Tran Mong Cat Truyen Ky", "Giang Ho Tieu Tu", "Thieu Nien Anh Hung Phuong The Ngoc", "Tieu Bao Va Khang Hy", "Nhu Y Cat Tuong", "Tieu Ngu Nhi Va Hoa Vo Khuyet", "Nhat Nguyet Than Kiem", and "Tay Du Ky 1996". In recent years, he has frequently appeared on television shows and performed in concerts.
In an interview with Nandu newspaper last year, Ve Kien shared that he rarely considers his age, feeling "like 19" due to his frequent interactions with younger individuals who possess strong passions, hobbies, and ambitions. When addressing students at universities and high schools, he often encourages them to discover work they genuinely love, dedicate their enthusiasm to it, and remain steadfast in their chosen path.

The actor married actress Truong Tay in 2007. The couple faced profound sorrow when Truong Tay experienced two miscarriages. Each time, Truong Ve Kien suppressed his own pain to provide unwavering support for his wife. He once told Sohu: "She endured much greater pain than I did. I put aside all my work and didn't contact friends to be by her side".
Ve Kien expresses deep contentment with his life, stating: "Peace of mind is better than physical comfort; a generous heart is better than a spacious house. I am happy not because I possess many things, but because I don't demand much."
