Eight ambulances brave rain to transport 11 multi-accident victims to hospital

Hung Vuong General Hospital medical staff timely rescued 11 victims from a multi-vehicle accident involving three passenger vehicles, a worker transport vehicle, and a truck on the evening of 8/6.

The serious collision occurred at Km35 on the Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho expressway, near the IC9 intersection of the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway, within Phu Tho province.

Upon receiving information at 19h30, amid heavy rain and slippery roads, Doctor Le Huy Dung, head of the emergency team at Chan Mong Clinic (Hung Vuong General Hospital), activated an emergency response plan. Initial information regarding the exact location and number of victims was unclear, prompting the hospital to immediately dispatch eight ambulances from three different directions to reach the scene as quickly as possible. Six vehicles departed from the central hospital, and two moved from satellite clinics.

At the scene, the three vehicles had collided in a pile-up, forming a deformed mass of steel that blocked the road and completely paralyzed the vital expressway. The worker transport vehicle bore the brunt of the impact, its cabin crushed and trapping many passengers inside. This incident left the survivors in extreme panic, Doctor Dung recounted.

The team of 15 medical staff quickly split into two groups to both calm the victims and triage injuries on-site, prioritizing critical cases. Concurrently, the entire operating room system and emergency blood reserves at Chan Mong Clinic and the central hospital were activated to prepare for patient reception.

Medical personnel identified a total of 11 people trapped and injured at the scene; some with minor injuries had already taken taxis to medical facilities. Doctors provided first aid, stabilized the injuries for all victims, and then transferred them to the hospital for specialized treatment.

Currently, two severely injured patients are under close observation by doctors, including one with a traumatic brain injury and another with a closed chest and abdominal injury. The remaining victims primarily sustained soft tissue injuries and are in stable condition.

Doctor Le Huy Dung shared that despite participating in many similar emergency cases, the multi-vehicle nature of this expressway accident was dangerous. However, the absence of fatalities was a fortunate outcome for both the victims and the rescue forces.

The Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho expressway spans over 40 km, connecting Phu Tho and Tuyen Quang provinces. The Km35 area near the IC9 intersection is known as a frequent black spot for serious traffic accidents.
