On 8/6, doctors at Vinh Long General Hospital successfully removed a plastic bottle from a 34-year-old man's rectum. The patient had admitted to inserting the 20 cm long, 5 cm diameter bottle himself for self-gratification but was unable to remove it.
Doctor Tran Nhat Phi and the General Surgery Department team performed the operation, safely extracting the foreign object. No severe damage was noted, and the patient's health is currently stable. He remains under observation at the hospital.
Upon admission, doctors identified the foreign object deep within the patient's rectum. Such incidents carry significant risks, including mucosal damage, bleeding, rectal perforation, and infection.
Doctor Phi emphasized the dangers of using objects not specifically designed for the human body for self-gratification. He explained that the plastic bottle, lacking an external stopper, was easily pushed deeper by the rectum's natural contractions, making removal difficult and increasing the risk of damage to the lower digestive tract.
