During Amy Poehler's podcast "Good Hang," broadcast on YouTube on 20/5, billionaire star Kim Kardashian shared one of her most trusted health practices: a daily supplement regimen. She revealed taking about 35 supplements daily, typically divided into three doses, to alleviate what she called "pill fatigue."
Kim's revelation surprised even host Poehler, despite the commonality of extravagant celebrity health routines. This also reflects a growing trend in modern wellness culture, where there's a belief that increased consumption leads to optimized health.

The term "pill fatigue" typically describes the physical and mental exhaustion individuals experience when managing complex, long-term medication regimens, such as those recovering from surgery or living with chronic illness. While Kardashian used the phrase casually, it underscores the normalization of intense supplement and wellness routines.
The supplement industry is a massive and rapidly growing sector, largely driven by the demand for enhanced overall nutrition, extended longevity, and long-term health protection. Despite its popularity, supplements in the US fall under a regulatory framework distinct from prescription drugs; they do not require proof of safety or efficacy before market release. Jessica Ball, a registered dietitian and senior nutrition editor at EatingWell magazine, stated: "Supplement companies can voluntarily seek independent verification to prove the accuracy and safety of their products, but this process is entirely voluntary, not mandatory."
Supplements are often marketed as natural or generally safe, leading many to mistakenly believe that using multiple products simultaneously carries minimal risk. In reality, misuse or incorrect combinations of supplements can lead to severe side effects, including liver and kidney damage, digestive disorders, and mood changes.
Experts indicate that most people do not need to take numerous supplements to meet nutritional needs or achieve longevity goals. Typically, a balanced diet provides sufficient micronutrients for healthy adults who are not pregnant, breastfeeding, at risk of micronutrient deficiencies, or managing chronic illnesses.
"As a dietitian, I always encourage people to prioritize whole foods to meet their body's nutritional needs. Supplements are only meant to fill gaps in a diet, and taking 35 pills a day is clearly excessive," explained Ball.
According to the expert, consuming a diverse range of nutrient-rich foods ensures the body's micronutrient needs are met. To accurately identify potential nutritional deficiencies, individuals should consult a doctor and undergo blood tests to make informed decisions about supplementation and which products best suit their specific needs.
While supplements play a role in medicine, emulating Kardashian's regimen is not recommended. Time-proven habits like a balanced diet, regular physical activity, adequate sleep, and stress management are far more effective for overall health and longevity than consuming dozens of capsules daily.
Celebrity health regimens can be appealing, but they are often difficult to sustain, expensive, and not always supported by robust scientific evidence. Practical medicine demonstrates that effective healthcare does not need to be overly complex or extreme. Consistency with fundamental health habits is a far more crucial and safer approach to long-term health protection than an elaborate supplement regimen.
