On the afternoon of 14/11, Le Van Sanh, 37, was undergoing treatment at Da Nang General Hospital, and Phan Duy Quang, 47, was at Quang Ngai General Hospital. Both presented with muscle damage that led to elevated liver enzymes. Duong Quang Cuong, 44, was also being treated at Quang Ngai General Hospital for severe enteritis.
These three men were transferred from Ly Son island to the mainland hospitals. Cuong was moved on 9/11, Quang on 11/11, and Sanh on 12/11, as they required closer medical monitoring and treatment. Quang's liver enzyme levels are now starting to decrease.

Doctor Duong Tien Thuan, Director of Ly Son District Military-Civilian Medical Center, explained the fishermen's conditions. All three suffered from exhaustion and muscle damage, resulting from extreme physical exertion while enduring hunger and thirst for 50 h adrift at sea. This prolonged muscle damage led to their elevated liver enzymes. Furthermore, continuous immersion in seawater and many hours of sun exposure caused severe inflammation of the skin on their upper bodies, particularly their faces.
According to family members, Sanh and Quang experienced peeling skin but are recovering well. However, their abnormally high liver enzyme levels necessitated their transfer to the mainland for specialized treatment. Regarding Cuong, Doctor Thuan stated that his severe enteritis was due to prolonged hunger and thirst, followed by consuming a large amount of food immediately after his rescue, which prevented his digestive system from adapting properly.

The incident began on the afternoon of 6/11. Cuong jumped into the sea from a fishing boat, prompting Quang and Sanh to immediately follow in an attempt to rescue him. High waves and strong winds from Typhoon number 13 (Kalmaegi) swept all three adrift for more than 120 km south, into the waters off Gia Lai province. After approximately 50 h adrift at sea, all three were fortunately discovered and rescued alive by various cargo ships and fishing boats.
