On 6/12, leaders of Sam Son Ward Police announced that they had identified and summoned the individual who posted fabricated information about "a VND300,000 pho bowl." The police are completing administrative sanction documents for this person.
Three days prior, a Facebook account named Hoa Vinh posted content about "being overcharged VND300,000 for a pho bowl." The post included a blurry image of a pho restaurant with a "Specialty Beef Pho" sign. This post quickly went viral, attracting many comments. Many users misunderstood that the incident occurred in Sam Son, leading to sarcastic remarks.
Sam Son Ward Police reported that verification results confirmed the content was fabricated. The owner of the Hoa Vinh Facebook account was identified as a 31-year-old man residing in Quang Phu ward, Thanh Hoa.
During questioning by police, the young man admitted to taking images from social media and posting false information. His intention was to attract likes and increase engagement for his clothing sales. He was ordered to remove the post, publish a correction, and pledge not to re-offend.
Sam Son Ward Police are completing sanction documents for the young man. He faces a fine of VND7,5 million for providing and sharing false, misleading, and slanderous information that damages the reputation of agencies and the honor and dignity of individuals.
Authorities advise social media users not to post, comment, or share unverified information. Spreading false rumors that cause public confusion can lead to legal action, and even criminal charges if severe consequences result.
