Around 3 p.m. on 9/11, Alexandra Doketova, a 33-year-old Russian tourist, was cycling in Buenos Aires when two men on a motorbike targeted her. As Alexandra stopped at a pedestrian crossing, the man on the back of the motorbike suddenly snatched her mobile phone.
Alexandra immediately grabbed the motorbike, using her weight to prevent them from fleeing. She fell to the ground but refused to let go, clinging to the phone snatcher's leg and causing him to fall. He attempted to get up and flee, dragging Alexandra along the road.
Moments later, passersby rushed to help Alexandra, subduing the suspect. Police arrived minutes later and arrested him.
Alexandra sustained head injuries, bruises, and scratches after her fierce resistance.
Local media reported that the accomplice was apprehended hours later thanks to surveillance cameras. Police raided the suspects' homes and confiscated 10 mobile phones. According to police, both had prior criminal records.
However, the court decided not to detain the two alleged serial phone thieves, citing lack of evidence. This decision sparked outrage as attacks on foreigners are increasing in Buenos Aires. "I don't know what more evidence they want. Everything can be seen on camera", a witness stated.
