On 25/11, Dong Thap Provincial Police initiated an investigation into Tin, a native of An Giang province, for property snatching.
Tin confessed he rented a room in Tan Phuoc 3 commune and worked as a factory worker at Long Giang Industrial Park. He stated he planned the gold theft because he needed money for personal expenses. After selling a gold chain weighing over 8 chi, valued at nearly 130 million VND, he purchased a television and refrigerator for his rented room.
According to the investigation, on the afternoon of 23/11, Tin entered a gold shop in Tan Phong hamlet, Chau Thanh commune. He wore a jacket, a helmet, and a mask, pretending to be a customer. Initially, he left the shop because it was crowded. About 5 minutes later, Tin re-entered when only an elderly man, the shop owner, remained.
He again asked to buy a gold chain, then suddenly snatched it and fled on a motorbike. The owner shouted for help and attempted to chase him but failed. The robbery, which lasted about one minute, was recorded by a camera.
One day after committing the crime, detectives raided Tin's rented room and arrested him on the evening of 24/11.
