Dania, 25, stated that 98% of her colleagues are women, and her friends who want boyfriends are forced to go abroad. "Female colleagues are fine, but to create life balance, we need men to flirt or converse with," she said.
To compensate for the shortage of men, many women like Dania turn to "husband for hire" services. These services assist with household tasks such as plumbing, assembling shelves, painting walls, hanging curtains, or installing a tivi. The price is 15 euro per hour and 100 euro for a full day.
Companies offering such services, including Remontdarbi and TaskRabbit, strictly prohibit clients and staff from dating or flirting. Experts predict the service will boom as the gender imbalance worsens.
Sociologist Baiba Bela stated the imbalance emerges from ages 30-40, where the male mortality rate is three times that of women in the same age group, primarily due to traffic accidents, alcoholism, and work-related accidents. Latvian women live approximately 11 years longer than men, marking the largest disparity in the EU.
