The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting announced that a cold air mass from the north is compressing and pushing a low-pressure trough, currently situated around 26-29 degrees north latitude, southward.
Forecasters predict that the cold front will impact the Northeast region starting the night of 7/5, then extend to the North Central region and parts of the Northwest region. Inland winds will shift to the northeast, blowing at level 2-3, with coastal areas experiencing level 3-4 winds. Concurrently, temperatures in the Northeast region and Thanh Hoa will become cooler, with minimum temperatures generally ranging from 21-24 degrees Celsius, and some mountainous areas dropping below 21 degrees Celsius.
In Hanoi, rain, moderate rain, and scattered thunderstorms are forecast from the evening of 7/5 through 8/5, with isolated areas experiencing very heavy downpours. The city will turn cooler from 8/5, with minimum temperatures between 22-24 degrees Celsius.

From the afternoon of 7/5 to 8/5, the northern region, Thanh Hoa, and Nghe An will experience thunderstorms, with rainfall generally ranging from 20-40 mm, and some locations receiving over 100 mm. From Ha Tinh to Hue city, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected, bringing 10-30 mm of rain, with some areas exceeding 70 mm.
At sea, strong northeast winds of level 4-5, gusting to level 6, are anticipated in the northern Gulf of Tonkin from early morning on 8/5, with waves reaching 1-2 meters, leading to rough seas. From the evening and night of 8/5, the northeastern East Sea will see strong winds of level 6, gusting to level 7-8, and waves 2-3 meters high.
The meteorological agency warns of potential tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts during thunderstorms. Localized heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods on small rivers and streams, cause landslides in mountainous areas, and lead to inundation in low-lying regions. Strong wind gusts may fell trees and damage homes and infrastructure. At sea, strong winds and high waves pose risks to vessels.
Since April, the northern region has repeatedly experienced thunderstorms and hail, resulting in significant damage. A recent storm from 2/5 to 4/5 injured 12 people and damaged over 3,100 homes across many localities.
Additionally, over 15,700 hectares of rice and crops were affected, with Nghe An and Ha Tinh being the hardest-hit provinces. The storms also unroofed or damaged 25 schools and 12 cultural centers, broke or toppled over 100 power poles, and caused landslides along several embankment sections.
