Captain Ho Sy Hung, 34, from Tan Mai ward, Nghe An province, commanded the 1,000 horsepower fishing vessel with its eight crew members. The boat had departed from Hoang Mai waters, heading to Ha Tinh for fishing operations.
At approximately 1:30 PM, the vessel was overcome by strong winds and high waves, causing it to sink. This occurred about 50 nautical miles (over 80 km) east-northeast of Vung Ang port in Ha Tinh province. Crew members quickly sent a distress signal to border guards before abandoning the ship and entering the water.

Clinging to styrofoam boxes and life jackets, the crew members drifted across the sea. By 4:45 PM, captain Nguyen Thai Son's fishing boat, NA-93986, located seven of them. The rescue vessel safely brought them aboard, but one crew member was still missing.
Authorities alerted nearby fishing vessels to assist in the search efforts. However, adverse weather conditions and poor visibility have hampered attempts to locate the missing crew member.
