Around 20:30, heavy rain triggered a landslide on the mountainside near Khanh Son Pass in Cam An commune. A large volume of earth and rocks descended upon a camp housing 10 individuals. Seven managed to escape, but three were buried.
Do Minh Thanh, Chairman of Cam An Commune People's Committee (UBND), stated that rescue forces, in coordination with local commune units, immediately began clearing debris and searching for victims. Rescuers have since located two individuals: one was found deceased, and the other was transported to Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital.
"Authorities are currently working to locate the remaining person throughout the night, while also clearing earth and rocks to reopen the road," Thanh said.
Thanh also noted that the individuals at the camp were employed by a local forest protection management unit for tree clearing. Earlier that afternoon, authorities had established a checkpoint on the road leading to the mountainside, warning residents about potential landslides. Rain continues in the affected area.
Heavy rain this afternoon caused widespread flooding across numerous communes and wards in Khanh Hoa province. Low-lying areas in places like Bac Cam Ranh ward and Cam Lam commune were submerged by more than 20 cm, significantly impeding vehicle movement. In mountainous communes, heavy runoff caused streams to swell, submerging the Ba Cang village tran bridge in Trung Khanh Vinh commune. Provincial Road 9, which traverses Khanh Son Pass, also experienced multiple landslides and fallen trees.
The Khanh Hoa Hydro-Meteorological Station forecasts moderate to very heavy rainfall from 16/11 to 18/11, with total accumulations of 80-150 mm across the province. Mountainous regions could see 100-200 mm, with some areas exceeding 250 mm. The agency also warned of potential localized heavy downpours, with over 80 mm expected within three hours.
