Northern Vietnam has recently experienced chilly, humid conditions, with temperatures generally below 24 degrees Celsius and humidity exceeding 70%. This was due to an intensified cold front drifting eastward, resulting in cloudy skies.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting announced that these conditions will persist until the end of today. From tomorrow, 8/12, until 11/12, northern Vietnam will be affected by a dry cold air mass with a divergent wind field, leading to clearer skies and significantly colder temperatures at night and in the early morning.

From 12/12, a wind convergence zone at an altitude of 5,000 meters will form, moving from Upper Laos into northern Vietnam, bringing increased cloud cover and rain. During this period, a strong northeast monsoon will also arrive, causing temperatures to drop further and increasing the risk of frost and snow on mountain peaks above 1,500 meters.
US-based Accuweather forecasts that Hanoi's temperatures for the first three days of next week will range from 15-26 degrees Celsius, dropping to 12-20 degrees by the weekend. High-altitude areas above 1,500 meters, such as Sa Pa (Lao Cai), will see temperatures fluctuating between 8-19 degrees next week, falling to 5-11 degrees Celsius by the weekend.
Central Vietnam will experience cloudy skies and scattered showers with thunderstorms in some areas during the first two days of next week, due to the intensified cold front. From 9/12 to 11/12, the combined effect of the cold front and weak easterly winds will bring widespread rain to provinces from Thanh Hoa to Hue, with temperatures below 25 degrees Celsius and cold conditions at night and in the morning. The South Central Coast will see temperatures ranging from 26-30 degrees Celsius.
The Southern region and the Central Highlands are forecast to have mostly dry, sunny weather from now until 9/12. From 10/12, an easterly wind disturbance will bring thunderstorms to the area. Temperatures in the Central Highlands will generally remain below 30 degrees, while the Southern region will experience temperatures below 33 degrees Celsius.
