Vu Dai Thang, 50 years old and originally from Hanoi, possesses a strong academic background in economics, law, and international relations, including a master's degree from Waseda University in Japan. He is a member of the 13th Central Committee, having previously served as an alternate member of the 12th Central Committee.
Throughout his 28-year career, Thang spent 20 years at the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI). During this time, he progressed through various roles, including foreign economic specialist and service sector specialist, before becoming Deputy Director and then Director of the Department of Economic Zones Management. This period was pivotal for him to gain extensive experience in development management, investment, and trade—key areas within the ministry.
In 2014, he was transferred to a local government role in Ha Nam province, where he joined the Provincial Party Committee and was elected Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee. He returned to the MPI in 2018, taking on the role of Deputy Minister and overseeing several of the ministry's operational divisions.
In 2020, Thang was appointed Secretary of the Quang Binh Provincial Party Committee. Four years later, the Politburo assigned him to lead the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term. In 9/2025, he was re-elected for the 2025-2030 term, continuing his leadership in Quang Ninh's development. His new assignment to Hanoi reflects his extensive experience and leadership capabilities.
