Truck rear-ends tractor-trailer, two dead

A truck collided with the rear of a tractor-trailer on the Bung - Van Ninh expressway on the morning of 8/12, killing two people and injuring three.

At approximately 5h30, Nguyen Van Hau, 59, from Vy Quy commune, Tien Giang, was driving a tractor-trailer southbound on the Bung - Van Ninh expressway. The vehicle experienced an incident upon reaching Hoan Lao commune. A truck driven by Tran Van Trung, 37, from Thanh Hoa province, then collided with the rear of the tractor-trailer.

The truck's front was severely damaged, resulting in two fatalities and three injuries. The victims were transported to the Cuba - Dong Hoi Friendship Hospital for emergency treatment.

The accident caused significant congestion on the northbound and southbound lanes of the expressway, extending for several kilometers. Authorities rerouted traffic and are investigating the cause. Vehicles traveling southbound were diverted onto Ho Chi Minh Road at the Phong Nha town interchange to continue their journeys.

The Bung - Van Ninh expressway spans nearly 49 km through Quang Tri province. Phase one of the project features four lanes, a 17 m wide roadbed, and a design speed of 90 km/h. The road lacks a dedicated emergency lane, with emergency stops only provided every 4-5 km.
