Two men die, suspected lightning strike

Two men, 38 and 34 years old, are suspected to have died from a lightning strike while working at a shrimp farm in Vinh Hau commune (formerly Hoa Binh district) on the morning of 17/11.

Around 6:30 am, Lam Van Hien, 38, and Trinh Thanh Lam, 34, both residents of Vinh My commune, arrived at a local industrial shrimp farm in hamlet 12, Vinh Hau commune, to work. While they were going to the pond to spread tarpaulins, light rain and thunder began.

Around 7:10 am, Tran Van Ut, a colleague, went to look for the two men when they did not return for breakfast. He found Hien lying on the edge of the pond, his clothes scorched, already deceased. Ut and others then searched the pond and discovered the body of the second victim.

Local authorities and functional agencies arrived at the scene to examine it and determine the cause. Authorities handed over the bodies to their families for funeral arrangements.

According to the Ca Mau Hydro-Meteorological Station, rainy weather is expected to continue in many areas over the next few days, with warnings of flooding, whirlwinds, and lightning. Authorities advise residents to limit outdoor work during thunderstorms and lightning to ensure safety.
