Neymar's family company, NR Sports, has acquired the brand rights to football legend Pele, aiming to revitalize his global legacy. The acquisition, valued at approximately 18 million USD, was reported by UOL Esport as surprisingly low for such a globally recognized name. This move comes after the Pele brand saw minimal commercial activity since the legend's passing on 29/12/2022. NR Sports plans to rebuild the brand worldwide, honoring the only player to win three World Cups and ensuring his story reaches new generations. The deal grants Neymar's company full rights to Pele's name, image, archival material, and commercial opportunities.

Pele's unparalleled career cemented his status as the greatest player in Brazilian football history. Experts worldwide consistently acknowledge his dominance, highlighted by three World Cup victories in 1958, 1962, and 1970, with his first triumph at just 17 years old. Renowned for his prolific goal-scoring, official statistics credit him with 778 goals. Guinness World Records, including unofficial matches, recognizes an astonishing 1,279 goals. He also held the record for 77 goals for the Brazilian national team from 1971 until 2023.
Despite surpassing Pele's national team scoring record, Neymar currently faces significant challenges in his career. In 2023, Neymar eclipsed Pele's national team record, scoring 79 goals for Brazil. However, he has not been called up to the national team since late 2023, following a severe anterior cruciate ligament tear in his knee. The 33-year-old forward has struggled to regain his form and fitness, playing only 31 club matches and scoring seven goals since late 2024.
Neymar's future with the national team and a potential World Cup 2026 appearance hinges on his return to peak performance. Coach Carlo Ancelotti, who took charge of the Brazilian national team in 6/2025, has yet to select Neymar. While Ancelotti leaves the door open for the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star to participate in the 2026 World Cup, he demands top-level performance. Neymar's contract with Santos expires on 31/12. Brazilian media reports indicate several English Premier League clubs are interested in signing him. A move to England and a return to high form could significantly boost his chances for the World Cup, where his best achievement was reaching the semi-finals in 2014 on home soil.
