The tennis "goddess" who once captivated Stefanos Tsitsipas

Paula Badosa, the former world number two tennis player, dated fellow player Stefanos Tsitsipas for several years before confirming their separation as she celebrated her 28th birthday this week.

During her birthday celebration on 15/11, Badosa proudly displayed a sash inscribed with "Charming and Single" along with a series of other photos on Instagram, again confirming her relationship status with Tsitsipas.

She had previously stated in an interview in Athens, Greece, that she was single.

Badosa and Tsitsipas became a couple in summer 2023. The female player, born in 1997, was seen in the stands at Roland Garros cheering for her Greek boyfriend. After the clay-court Grand Slam concluded, they went public with their relationship, traveling together to many tournaments and openly displaying their affection.

Within two years, "Tsitsidosa" became the most prominent couple in the tennis world.

At the start of their relationship, Tsitsipas was consistently in the top 6 of the ATP rankings, while Badosa even climbed to world number two in the WTA rankings before suffering an injury.

During the peak of their relationship, both maintained impressive form. Tsitsipas reached four finals and secured three titles, including the Monte Carlo Masters 2024. Badosa also excelled, earning the "WTA Comeback Player of the Year in 2024" award and achieving her best Grand Slam performance earlier this year by reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open 2025.

However, Tsitsidosa's form simultaneously declined after the Melbourne event. Tsitsipas failed to advance past the second round of any Grand Slam this year and did not compete in any semifinals in other tournaments. Badosa also struggled, unable to reach the top 4 of any event outside the Australian Open. The impact of her injury further limited her to just one additional tournament after Wimbledon 2025.

Their relationship was also fraught with difficulties. Tsitsipas experienced mental and physical instability, constantly changing coaches before ultimately bringing his father, Apostolos, back to his team to salvage the situation.

Under this pressure, he again distanced himself from Badosa. After both were eliminated early at Wimbledon, they quietly unfollowed each other on social media and deleted all shared photos. This sudden breakup caused regret within the online community. Just one week prior, the Greek player had posted a food challenge video with his Spanish girlfriend.

In April this year, "Tsitsidosa" had even discussed settling down together. On the red carpet of the Laureus sports awards event, Stefanos Tsitsipas expressed his desire to decorate his wedding with a white color scheme, his favorite color and the reason for his passion for Wimbledon.

Badosa added that white embodies Greek style and is characteristic of weddings there.

This was not the first time the pair had parted ways. In May last year, they also announced their separation but reunited after only a month. At that time, Tsitsipas shared that the pressure of competing on the ATP Tour made it difficult to sustain the relationship.

However, the time apart made both realize the value of each other. Tsitsipas described his girlfriend at the time as an empathetic woman, and he quickly reconnected with her after a few weeks.

According to close sources, the latest decision to separate was made to salvage both their careers. Badosa had won three titles before 2023, reached the quarterfinals of the Olympic 2020, and the semifinals of the WTA Finals 2021.

After a period of peak performance last year, the Spanish player continued to struggle with injuries and poor form, even considering retirement after witnessing tennis legend Rafael Nadal face numerous physical issues.

If she were to retire now, Paula Badosa would conclude her career with nearly USD 10 million in prize money. Additionally, her attractive appearance has secured many endorsement deals. Nike sponsors Badosa's apparel, while Wilson sponsors her equipment.

She is also a brand ambassador for Iberdrola, an electricity provider on the Iberian Peninsula. Furthermore, she has collaborated with The 1916 Company to create her own jewelry line.
