"We will sue them, demanding compensation from one to five billion USD, possibly next week. I think I have to do it. They even admitted to deception," US President Donald Trump told reporters on Air Force One on November 14.
Trump added that the British people are very angry about what happened, as BBC has shown itself to be fake news. The US President also stated he would raise the issue of BBC with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
"I will call him this weekend. In fact, he called me first; he was very embarrassed," the US President said about the UK Prime Minister.

Earlier, BBC Chairman Samir Shah sent a letter to the White House, apologizing to President Trump for the incident involving the edited speech. However, the broadcaster refused the compensation demand, stating there were insufficient grounds for Trump to sue them for "defamation."
Trump's legal team earlier this week demanded BBC remove all content containing the edited video. They also warned the broadcaster could face a lawsuit with compensation not less than one billion USD.

In an episode of the "Panorama" documentary series aired before the 2024 US presidential election, BBC edited a video of Trump's speech from the Capitol Hill riot on 6/1/2021. This editing misled the public into believing the US President encouraged protesters to "fight hard" with him. In reality, Trump said, "we're going to walk to the Capitol and cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women."
