"I will permanently stop allowing immigrants from all third-world countries to help fully restore the American system", President Donald Trump wrote in a lengthy social media post on the night of November 27, immediately after Thanksgiving.
"Third world" is a term Trump uses to refer to developing countries where most people have a low standard of living and are impoverished.
He also threatened to reverse "millions" of entry applications granted under his predecessor, Joe Biden, and to "deport anyone who is not a net asset to America or cannot love America".

President Trump further stated he would end all federal benefits and subsidies for those "not US citizens", and deport any foreign national deemed a security threat or "incompatible with Western civilization".
Trump's announcement marks a new escalation in his anti-immigration policy. He affirmed he would implement measures to significantly reduce the number of "illegal and disruptive immigrants".
"Only by reversing the migration flow can this situation be fully rectified", the US President emphasized.
Previously, the Trump administration announced an indefinite suspension of immigration from Afghanistan after an Afghan citizen shot two national guardsmen in Washington D.C., one of whom died.
The US President also ordered agencies to review the cases of Afghan citizens who entered the country after Washington withdrew troops from the South Asian nation in 2021.
