"Law enforcement forces from Ukraine and Moldova have dismantled an organized criminal group preparing to carry out contract assassinations targeting prominent Ukrainian citizens and foreigners," Ukraine's chief prosecutor Ruslan Kravchenko stated on 20/2.
According to Kravchenko, Ukrainian officials conducted 20 searches across the country, seizing money, weapons, explosives, and "documents detailing communication with Russian coordinators". Seven suspects were arrested in Ukraine, while three suspects, including the alleged ringleader, were apprehended in Moldova.
Kyiv identified Andriy Yusov, spokesperson for Ukraine's Defense Intelligence Directorate, who coordinates prisoner exchanges with Russia, as one of the targeted officials.
"The Russian side promised to pay the suspects up to 100,000 USD," Kravchenko added, "with the reward depending on the target's prominence and influence."

Moldova had previously confirmed its participation in a joint investigation with Ukraine into a plot to "eliminate several public figures" in the neighboring country.
Russia has not yet commented on these reports.
Moscow has also previously accused Kyiv of being behind the assassinations of high-ranking Russian officials within its territory and newly annexed regions. Ukraine has publicly admitted involvement in some assassinations, stating these were retaliatory actions against those supporting Russia's campaign.
