Mastercard appoints new country manager for Vietnam

Mastercard has appointed Sharad Jain as country manager for Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos.

Sharad Jain takes over from Winnie Wong, who led these 3 markets since 4/2019 and is now Mastercard's country manager for Thailand and Myanmar.

In addition to strategic direction and overseeing general business operations in the region, Jain will focus on fostering collaborations with government agencies, banking partners, fintech companies, and retailers in Vietnam to expand digital payment solutions.

Mastercard's new country manager sees "enormous" opportunities for Vietnam to leverage technology and innovation to achieve breakthroughs in payments. "I am eager to work closely with partners in Vietnam to build a secure, connected, and inclusive digital ecosystem," Jain said.

According to Mastercard's New Payments Index, 94% of Vietnamese consumers have used at least one new digital payment method in the past year, 7% higher than the global average. This strong demand for digital payments creates significant opportunities to expand the application of digital technologies and solutions, contributing to Vietnam's progress toward a more comprehensive and sustainable digital ecosystem.

Before taking on this role, Jain had over 22 years of experience in financial services across India, Asia, and the Middle East. Most recently, he served as vice president of customer management for Southeast Asia at Mastercard in Singapore.

Mastercard is a payment technology company headquartered in New York. The company operates in over 200 countries and territories and has a market capitalization of approximately 530 billion USD.
