The story, which emerged after Henan Television posted a video on April 13, quickly captured public attention across social media platforms. Zichen, living with his grandfather in a poor rural village, is fatherless and was abandoned by his mother, who remarried years ago.
Driven by concern for his grandfather's health, Zichen routinely saves his portion of meat from school meals. "I worry if he doesn't eat meat, my grandfather will be weak, so I bring it home, hoping he lives a very long time", the boy shared, highlighting his deep affection and sense of responsibility.

Despite his tender age, Zichen manages all household chores, including cooking, washing clothes, and hanging them to dry. His 73-year-old grandfather revealed that while Zichen appears strong during the day, he often cries at night, missing his parents. The grandfather expressed regret that his own poor health prevents him from providing a more comfortable life for his grandson.
Ms. Vuong, Zichen's homeroom teacher, praised him as a well-behaved and exceptionally understanding student. Moved by Zichen's plight, she publicly pledged her support: "If anything unfortunate happens to his grandfather, this child will be my child. I promise to raise him until he reaches adulthood".
The viral video prompted an outpouring of emotion online. Thousands of commenters expressed admiration for Zichen's resilience and conveyed their desire to donate to support him. The story also led many to criticize Zichen's mother for abandoning him at such a young age.
In response to the media attention, local authorities and the Women's Union announced they are actively considering policies to provide Zichen with comprehensive support.
