Miss Universe 2025: 'I receive many hateful messages'

Miss Universe Fatima Bosch, accused of winning due to family connections, speaks out for the first time about the public's negative reactions, asserting she will not be defeated.

On her Instagram Story on 25/11, the Mexican beauty queen revealed she has received many hostile messages targeting her and her family since winning the competition. Fatima Bosch shared screenshots of the messages, emphasizing that these words cannot break her because she possesses "strong self-worth and self-esteem".

In response to the negativity, the beauty queen questioned what a person must harbor inside to wish ill upon a stranger. She noted that while she is resilient, others could be harmed, negatively impacting their mental and emotional well-being. Therefore, she chose to speak out as a woman, not just as a beauty queen.

"Though the attacks are painful, they do not define who I am. What defines me is my strength, integrity, and love for my homeland and for women worldwide, whom I represent," she wrote. According to Bosch, her victory is a reminder that women are resilient, talented, and powerful.

"To the women enduring violence in all its forms, I promise never to be silent. I will use this role to prove you are not alone," her post stated. Fatima Bosch also thanked the audience members who believed in her, saying their support both uplifted her and helped her move forward. She pledged to continue using her voice to advocate for women's rights.

"I still have a mission to complete. My commitment is to continue using my beauty queen crown for good causes," she concluded her post.

Fatima Bosch's statement comes amid widespread speculation that her victory was influenced by her family's background. According to Hello!, her father, Bernardo Bosch Hernandez, is an engineer with 27 years of experience at the state-owned oil company Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX). He currently serves as an advisor to the Director General of Exploration and Production.

After the final round on 21/11, French-Lebanese musician Omar Harfouch, one of the three judges who abstained from scoring, declared Fatima Bosch a "fake winner", claiming she won because her father had business connections with Miss Universe Organization (MUO) president Raul Rocha.

Earlier, the composer accused MUO of "lacking transparency" and "arbitrarily forming a judging panel" to select the top 30. MUO representatives have denied all allegations but have not clarified the Bosch family's relationship with the competition's leadership.

Fatima Bosch was born in 2000 in Teapa, Tabasco, Mexico, and studied fashion design at the Iberoamericana University in her hometown. She shared that as a child, she was a victim of school bullying due to suffering from dyslexia and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

During the competition, in addition to the controversy surrounding the final results, she also drew attention for a previous dispute with Thai production director Nawat Itsaragrisil. At a meeting in early november, Nawat criticized her for not posting promotional images of host country Thailand, calling security to intervene when she stood up to confront him.

Speaking to reporters backstage, Fatima Bosch said the director called her "stupid". Nawat denied this but also apologized for his inappropriate behavior towards her. Mexico's first female president, Claudia Sheinbaum, praised Bosch's actions, stating she admired the beauty queen for speaking out against injustice.

First held in 1952, Miss Universe is one of the world's most-watched beauty pageants, with 165 countries and territories purchasing broadcasting rights. This year's competition, which began in early november, has been plagued by organizational scandals.

After the finals, several contestants, including representatives from Curacao and Estonia, posted criticisms, alleging discrimination and a failure to empower women. On 25/11, 4th runner-up Olivia Yace from Cote d'Ivoire announced she was relinquishing her title to pursue her own path.

On the same day, president Raul Rocha sparked further outrage by suggesting that Olivia Yace could not win because obtaining a visa for her country was difficult for many nations, while Miss Universe requires extensive international travel. This view led many to accuse him of discriminating against contestants from smaller countries. On Instagram, this year's representative from Guadeloupe, Ophely Mezino, criticized him for using a racially discriminatory excuse to justify not selecting someone qualified for the role.
