Star of 'The Thorn Birds' fears no old age

Rachel Ward, the star of "The Thorn Birds", responds to comments criticizing her age, stating she has no regrets about her fading beauty.

Actress Rachel Ward, 69, recently received numerous comments on Instagram criticizing her appearance after she shared a video promoting her family farm in Australia for Christmas. Many suggested she looked older than her actual age and implied that the former screen icon had not preserved her youth. On 15/1, she garnered attention with a post responding to the negative comments and thanking those who defended her.

In a new video, Rachel Ward urged everyone not to fear aging, describing old age as a wonderful phase. Upon reaching her sixties, she feels more fulfilled than ever, with no regrets about leaving youth and beauty behind. "I'm not young anymore, but I'm very happy. We need to cherish and welcome these later years. Just wait until you reach this age. They will bring so many unexpected gifts that you won't realize until you experience them yourself," she stated.

The actress also expressed being touched by the support from her fans, assuring them not to worry about her. Rachel Ward understands that everyone is concerned about losing their youth and sometimes resorts to extreme measures to retain their beauty. Despite this, she hopes people will release that perspective to embrace the good things to come.

In the caption, Rachel Ward also joked that despite currently being a farmer, she should groom her hair and apply lipstick before appearing on social media. Additionally, the artist promoted her farm's products. The video has since attracted over 500,000 views and thousands of comments agreeing with the actress's outlook on life.

Rachel Ward, born in England in 1957, rose to fame playing Meggie Cleary in the popular 1980s series "The Thorn Birds". After the show, she limited her acting roles, transitioning to screenwriting and directing. Her most recent project was the television series Darby and Joan (2022), where she directed two episodes.

In recent years, Ward has limited her media appearances, focusing on managing her farm in Australia with her husband, actor Bryan Brown, 79. He was her co-star in "The Thorn Birds". The couple married in 1983 and have three children. In a 2022 interview with The Mirror, Brown shared that the secret to their happy marriage is always agreeing with his wife and taking responsibility for mistakes. "If men understood that, they would be happier," he joked.
