Dong Nai General Hospital transitioned to electronic health records (EHR) on 12/9. It is the third hospital in Dong Nai province to implement EHR, following Long Khanh General Hospital and Thong Nhat General Hospital.
Dr. Ngo Duc Tuan, Director of Dong Nai General Hospital, explained that the hospital collaborated with technology partners for two years to develop the EHR system. In June, the hospital invested in upgrading two servers for the EHR system, enhanced antivirus protection for the servers, and upgraded the firewall.

Currently, the EHR system is operational in some internal medicine and surgical departments. The project is gradually being rolled out to the remaining departments, including obstetrics and specialized units.
"After achieving these initial results, the hospital will continue to implement the system across all departments, refining the software and infrastructure to ensure ease of use for medical staff and maintain legal compliance," Dr. Tuan said.
As the largest hospital in Dong Nai province, Dong Nai General Hospital is also embracing information technology and administrative reforms in healthcare. This includes implementing cashless payments using dynamic QR codes, adopting the One Card system, online appointment scheduling, and effectively utilizing the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for comprehensive patient test data management and the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) to enhance medical imaging quality and support remote diagnosis.
EHR helps patients save time by allowing online registration, synchronizes data for easy access by doctors, and reduces printing and imaging costs. The system enables interoperability between healthcare facilities, minimizing the need for repeated tests, enhancing transparency in insurance management, and reducing administrative procedures.
Vietnam has over 1,800 hospitals, but as of mid-June, only 270 had transitioned to EHR. The Ministry of Health has mandated that all hospitals eliminate paper records by 30/9, with the remaining facilities required to complete the transition by the end of 2026.
