Driver arrested after reckless overtaking kills 9th-grade student

Do Dinh Chanh, 29, has been arrested on charges of unsafe overtaking, which led to the death of a 15-year-old girl riding an electric bicycle.

Do Dinh Chanh, 29, was temporarily detained by Dak Lak Provincial Police on 30/5 for violating road traffic regulations. Chanh, a resident of An Khe ward, Gia Lai province, faces charges following an incident on the morning of 27/5.

According to the investigation, on the morning of 27/5, Chanh was driving a truck on National Highway 14, heading from Lam Dong province to Dak Lak. As he approached Thanh Nhat ward, he attempted to overtake a line of vehicles ahead. The driver activated his lights, honked, and veered into the oncoming lane.

At that moment, an oncoming parked truck and a motorbike driven by Tong Viet Tinh, 30, were present. Chanh's truck forced Tinh to stop his motorbike close to the parked vehicle. Simultaneously, Truong Thi Hong Ngoc, who was riding an electric bicycle behind Tinh's motorbike, could not react in time. She fell onto the road directly in front of Chanh's truck. The student was run over and died at the scene.
