Around 2 am today, Hung (46), residing in Ngo Quyen ward, walked on Lach Tray street towards Thanh Doi intersection, carrying a knife and exhibiting unusual behavior.

In front of the Hai Phong City Martyrs' Monument, Hung suddenly attacked a woman walking by. Despite the victim's attempts to shield herself and resist, Hung repeatedly stabbed her in the face.

A young man rushed into a gas station, borrowed a fire extinguisher, and sprayed Hung to rescue the woman. Hung then left, still holding the knife, and continued along Lach Tray street with an aggressive demeanor.

Responding to the report, Gia Vien Ward Police and the Criminal Police Department dispatched officers to apprehend Hung. However, he violently resisted, severing a tendon of Captain Nguyen Duc Thinh.

Hung was subdued near the entrance of Lach Tray Stadium. Initial drug tests showed positive results.

The woman sustained serious injuries but is now out of critical condition.
