2025 FIFA Club World Cup Quarterfinal Matchups Set

Dortmund and Real Madrid secured their spots in the quarterfinals on July 2nd, completing the final eight for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. The quarterfinals will be played on July 4th and 5th.

In the final match of the round of 16, Dortmund defeated Mexican representative Monterrey 2-1. Serhou Guirassy was the hero, scoring twice with assists from Karim Adeyemi. Earlier that day, a header from 21-year-old striker Gonzalo Garcia gave Real Madrid a 1-0 victory over Juventus.

This result sets up a highly anticipated quarterfinal clash between Real Madrid and Dortmund. The two teams have met 14 times in European competitions, all in the Champions League. Real Madrid holds the advantage with six wins, five draws, and three losses against Dortmund. Their most recent encounter was in the 2023-2024 Champions League final, where Real Madrid won 2-0.

Dortmund will be slightly disadvantaged without Jobe Bellingham. The new signing impressed in the group stage but will miss the quarterfinal due to a suspension. The July 6th match will therefore not be the first time the Bellingham brothers face each other directly, as only the older brother, Jude, will be present for Real Madrid.

Another all-European quarterfinal will feature Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Bayern Munich. These two have a history in the Champions League, having played 13 times. Bayern has won seven of those matches, including the last three. These victories include a 1-0 win in the 2019-2020 final and 1-0 and 2-0 wins in the round of 16 of the 2022-2023 season.

The remaining two quarterfinals will see Fluminense (Brazil) take on Al-Hilal (Saudi Arabia), and Palmeiras (Brazil) face Chelsea (England). If both Fluminense and Palmeiras win their respective matches, they will set up a Brazilian derby in the semifinals.

Through the round of 16, Angel Di Maria leads the tournament in scoring with four goals for Benfica. However, the Argentinian veteran will not have the opportunity to add to his tally after Benfica lost 1-4 to Chelsea in the round of 16. The race for the Golden Boot is now between Gonzalo Garcia (Real Madrid), Guirassy (Dortmund), Harry Kane, Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala (all Bayern Munich), Marcos Leonardo (Al Ahly), and Pedro Neto (Chelsea), each with three goals.

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is the first edition to feature an expanded format of 32 teams and is being held in the USA. The quarterfinals will be played on July 4th and 5th.
