Alcaraz aims to extend winning streak at Wimbledon

Carlos Alcaraz has the opportunity to extend his 20-match winning streak when he faces Jan-Lennard Struff in the third round of Wimbledon.

Alcaraz has won three of their four previous encounters. However, Struff possesses weapons that could trouble Alcaraz, particularly his serve. In their past matches, Struff has often pushed Alcaraz, notably in their first-round Wimbledon clash in 2022, which Alcaraz won in five sets.

However, a repeat of that scenario seems unlikely given Alcaraz's current form and 20-match winning streak. His latest victory came against tournament surprise Oliver Tarvet. Beyond extending his streak, Alcaraz has also shown improvement since his challenging opening match against Fabio Fognini.

These are important tests for Alcaraz as he aims for his third consecutive Wimbledon title. The 22-year-old has won 20 of his 22 matches at the All England Club, making him the second-fastest player to reach this milestone in the Open Era, behind only Rod Laver, who achieved 20 wins in 21 matches.

If he completes a Wimbledon hat-trick, Alcaraz will be the third player in the 21st century to achieve this feat, following Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. The prospect of this happening is strong, given Alcaraz has reached the finals of his last five tournaments, winning four, including the most recent Grand Slam at Roland Garros.

In contrast to Alcaraz, Struff's form has dipped since the Paris Olympics. This week marks the first time Struff has won two consecutive matches—against Filip Misolic and Felix Auger-Aliassime—in a tournament this year. Before Wimbledon, the German had only five wins in 22 matches in 2025.

Struff's goal of reaching the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first time in his career faces a significant challenge in the world number two. At Grand Slams, Struff has never beaten a top-5 opponent in seven previous attempts.

Notable third-round men's singles matches at Wimbledon today, 4/7:

6:30 pm Andrey Rublev - Adrian Mannarino
7:30 pm Taylor Fritz - Alejandro Davidovich Fokina
8:30 pm Nuno Borges - Karen Khachanov
10:00 pm Nicolas Jarry - Joao Fonseca
10:00 pm Carlos Alcaraz - Jan-Lennard Struff
