Ruben Amorim is preparing for his first full season at Old Trafford after his appointment in 11/2024. Since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement, no Man Utd manager has lasted more than three years. However, Amorim, whose contract runs until 2027 with a one-year extension option, aims for a much longer stay.
"I want to be here for 20 years," Amorim told ESPN on 2/8. "That's my goal, and I truly believe in it. I've been fortunate in my coaching career and want a long-term project. But results will dictate that. I know I used all my luck last season, but I’m ready to start again."

Last season, Man Utd earned only 42 points—their worst performance in 33 years in the Premier League. Their previous lowest point total was 58 in the 2021-2022 season under Erik ten Hag. The "Red Devils" finished 15th, their worst finish since being relegated in the 1973-1974 season.
Man Utd last won the Premier League in 2013 under Ferguson. Their last Champions League title came in 2008, defeating Chelsea in the final. Despite the club enduring over a decade without a major trophy, Amorim is confident that success will return to Old Trafford.
"I have no doubts," Amorim stated. "This club has things you cannot buy: tradition, history, and fans. We have money, even without Champions League football. We will have more money in the future. CEO Omar Berrada and everyone are working on strategies to increase financial resources. The issue is the culture. If we establish the right culture, combined with tradition and money, we can reclaim our rightful place."
Amorim has formed a new leadership group at Man Utd to address issues within the dressing room. Captain Bruno Fernandes is at the core of this new leadership group, alongside Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui, and Tom Heaton.
The Portuguese manager has also made significant changes to the squad, removing players like Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, and Jadon Sancho. His goal is to transform the culture at Old Trafford.
"I believe changing the culture is more of a club issue than a manager's issue," Amorim explained. "This year, I have more support. We have a leadership group responsible for the collective. Last year, I had to handle some things myself. This year, I've told them, 'You deal with it. Minor issues are your responsibility. You must take ownership.' These small changes are benefiting the team. I’m trying to understand the group’s dynamics. They are the ones responsible for keeping everyone in line."

The 40-year-old manager has introduced new rules, from time management to training intensity, to improve the club environment. He emphasizes that he doesn't treat players "like children," but will address the entire team if requirements aren't met.
"We have new rules," he said. "I treat them like men, and they must adhere to the rules. This can change how you train. If you don't train properly, I have evidence to show you. I will show you in front of everyone. If you train poorly once, I will show you the footage. I won't just talk."
