"Madueke is one of the most talented wingers in the Premier League," said Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta. "He's only 23, but he already has experience at both club and international levels. After witnessing Noni's performances, we are truly excited."
Born in North London, Madueke began his youth career at Crystal Palace and Tottenham before moving to the Netherlands to play for PSV in 2018. After 80 matches in the Netherlands, he returned to England to play for Chelsea in 1/2023. During more than two years at Stamford Bridge, Madueke played 92 matches, scoring 20 goals and providing 9 assists. Last season, he helped Chelsea win the Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.
In 9/2024, Madueke shone in his debut for the England national team, assisting a goal against Finland. The 23-year-old has since made 6 more appearances for his country.
"Dear coach Enzo Maresca. It was an honor to play under your guidance. Thank you for trying to help me become better as a player and a person," Madueke wrote on Instagram on the morning of 18/7 to the Chelsea coach, alongside thanks to fans, staff, and former teammates.
At Arsenal, Madueke is expected to support and compete with Bukayo Saka on the right wing. The new English signing is also an option on the left wing in place of Gabriel Martinelli.
Madueke is Arsenal's fourth signing this summer, following Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, and Christian Norgaard. The Gunners may acquire striker Viktor Gyokeres before the transfer window closes. Madueke also extends the list of players transferring from Chelsea to Arsenal in recent seasons, following Kai Havertz, Jorginho, David Luiz, Raheem Sterling, and new signing Kepa.
Arsenal's pursuit of Madueke has sparked controversy for over a week. Fans believe the Gunners are making a mistake by spreading their investment across players lacking top-tier quality. They want the club to focus on true stars, especially at the striker position. Last season, coach Arteta had to use midfielder Mikel Merino as a striker after injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz.
