"First and foremost, congratulations to Atletico on reaching the semifinals, but that cannot obscure the reality that the refereeing was a disgrace. It is unacceptable," Laporta told Spanish media on 15/4.
Laporta highlighted controversies from the first leg, including Barca not being awarded a penalty when Marc Pubill, a defender who had already received a yellow card, blocked the ball with his hand inside the penalty area. Center-back Pau Cubarsi also received a controversial red card after VAR intervention. According to Laporta, this incident warranted only a yellow card because the Atletico player had not fully controlled the ball.

Following the first leg of the quarterfinals, Barca submitted a complaint to UEFA. However, after reviewing the arguments, the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) concluded there was no basis to pursue the matter. Despite this, Barca's leadership affirmed they would demand an explanation and submit new complaints.
In the second leg, Laporta continued to point out numerous unfavorable decisions against Barca: Ferran Torres's goal disallowed for offside, Eric Garcia receiving a direct red card in the 79th minute, Dani Olmo fouled in the penalty area without a penalty awarded, and a collision that left Fermin Lopez bleeding unpunished. "These decisions significantly impacted the outcome of both legs. We will continue our fight with UEFA," Laporta emphasized.
After being eliminated from the Champions League, Raphinha criticized the referees, claiming Barca was robbed of a semifinal spot. The Brazilian forward also provoked Atletico fans, walking towards the stands and repeatedly saying "about to be eliminated" accompanied by gestures, interpreted as implying the opponent would be eliminated in the next round. Cameras captured this scene, which then circulated on social media.
A day later, Raphinha apologized, stating his actions stemmed from a moment of emotional loss of control. "It was a reaction during a stressful time, when a fan disrespected me," he explained, also admitting that his actions were inconsistent with his values and character.
Meanwhile, Lamine Yamal chose to avoid controversy and posted an optimistic message on Instagram. The Spanish winger emphasized that Barca gave their best but it was not enough to advance, viewing the defeat as part of the team's development journey.
"We have many reasons to hope and will give our all to achieve our goals," he wrote. "Every mistake is a lesson, and have no doubt that we will learn from each one. We are Barca and will return to our rightful place. My parents taught me that promises must be kept, and we will bring that cup back to Barcelona."
