Beckham meets Sharapova at Wimbledon

Football legend David Beckham took a private jet overnight to meet former tennis star Maria Sharapova on the opening day of Wimbledon 2025.

Looking dapper in a navy blue suit, Beckham appeared cheerful and excited at the All England Club. The former Manchester United midfielder chatted and posed for photos with Sharapova at Henman Hill before heading to Centre Court and taking a seat in the Royal Box with his mother, Sandra.

Sharapova is a longtime friend of the Beckham family. The former Russian tennis player has attended several fashion shows with Victoria. Since Sharapova moved to the US, she and the Beckhams have had more opportunities to meet.

During her playing career, Sharapova caused a sensation when she defeated defending champion Serena Williams in the 2004 Wimbledon final at the age of 17. Sharapova went on to win four more Grand Slam titles and spent 21 weeks ranked number 1 in the world.

Before returning to England, Beckham was in Atlanta to watch the match between Inter Miami and PSG in the round of 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup. The 50-year-old former player co-owns the American team with billionaire Jorge Mas. Despite Messi's efforts, the Argentinian superstar couldn't prevent his team from suffering a heavy 4-0 defeat.

At Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Beckham appeared with his right hand in a cast. Last week, he was hospitalized due to severe pain in his wrist. Doctors performed surgery to remove a screw that had been there since he treated an old injury 22 years ago while playing for the England national team.

Since retiring, Beckham has spent a lot of time at the All England Club each year to watch Wimbledon. Besides Beckham and Sharapova, Centre Court on the first day also welcomed former England manager Gareth Southgate and Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne.
