Binh Dinh relegated from V-League

Last season's V-League runners-up, Binh Dinh, were relegated to the second division after losing 2-4 to Hanoi FC in the final round of the 2024-2025 V-League on Sunday, 22/6.

Binh Dinh entered the final round needing a win against Hanoi FC and a loss by Da Nang against SLNA to avoid relegation. They started the match with determination, creating several opportunities but failing to convert them into goals.

Meanwhile, Hanoi FC, having already secured second place, fielded a starting lineup with several less-experienced players. Despite this, the visiting team played effectively, scoring 4 goals in the first half.

In the second half, with Hanoi FC playing more conservatively and dropping deeper, Binh Dinh had opportunities to come back, but they only managed two goals, ultimately losing 2-4.

Binh Dinh Football Club was established in 1975 as Binh Dinh Youth Football Team. In 1980, they changed their name to Nghia Binh Workers' Football Team, then to Binh Dinh Football Team in 1989. After several decades competing in Vietnam's top leagues, Binh Dinh was relegated to the second division in 2008.

In 2014, due to lack of funding, Binh Dinh withdrew from the second division and dropped down to the third division. A year later, the team was promoted to the second division, and in 2018, back to the first division. In 2020, they were promoted to the V-League. In the 2022 season, Binh Dinh finished third in the V-League and were runners-up in the National Cup.

In the 2023-2024 V-League season, Binh Dinh finished as runners-up. However, this season, due to financial constraints, they had to part ways with 15 key players, relying on younger players for the 2024-2025 V-League. After 26 rounds, the team won 5, drew 6, and lost 15 matches, earning 21 points, finishing last in the league, and facing relegation to the second division next season.

At Tam Ky Stadium, Da Nang missed a penalty against SLNA in the first half and conceded a goal in the 66th minute. However, two consecutive goals by Van Long in the 80th minute and Minh Quang in the 83rd minute secured a 2-1 comeback victory. With this win, Da Nang reached 25 points, finishing 13th and will play a playoff match against Binh Phuoc on 27/6 to determine their fate.

At Pleiku Stadium, Quang Nam trailed HAGL 2-0 and then 3-2. But in the 90+4th minute, they were awarded a penalty, and Charles Atshimene scored to equalize at 3-3. As a result, Quang Nam surpassed SLNA, finishing 11th and securing their place in the V-League next season.
