"Cape Verde can beat Argentina one-zero", Neves told the BBC on 30/6. "We enter the match with the goal of winning. Although expectations for us may not be high, once there is desire, anything can happen. A small nation like Cape Verde must always strive to create surprises. We have a 100% chance of winning against Argentina".

Cape Verde is making a significant impact in their debut World Cup appearance. The African representatives drew one-zero with Spain, two-two with Uruguay, and one-zero with Saudi Arabia, finishing second in their group and securing direct qualification to the round of 16.
Their upcoming challenge is substantial: Argentina, the reigning champions, are in top form, having won all three of their group stage matches. The South American team also boasts the tournament's brightest star, Lionel Messi, who has scored six of Argentina's eight goals, leading the golden boot race.
Despite this, instead of fear, President Neves views the clash with Argentina as a symbolic milestone in Cape Verde's journey. "We came to the World Cup to write our own destiny, which is to face the champions", he stated. "Therefore, we will face Argentina and Messi with the same determination, will, and desire to win and advance".

Similarly, coach Bubista expressed confidence, asserting that Cape Verde has proven "nothing is impossible" after making history by securing a spot in the round of 16. Cape Verde has become the nation with the smallest population to ever participate in the World Cup knockout stage, and the first debutant team since 2010 to advance past the group stage.
"I was unaware we achieved such records", coach Bubista shared. "If that is true, we have demonstrated that small nations can also set big goals, provided there is focus, determination, and good organization. We represent Cape Verde, but also Africa and small nations worldwide".
The 54-year-old coach stated he always believed Cape Verde would one day grace the world's biggest football stage, praising his players. "They gave their all, showing personality and discipline. When those elements combine, you achieve results like today", he expressed.
While not making bold predictions about causing an upset against Argentina, coach Bubista affirmed the team would approach the match with the same fighting spirit they have displayed throughout the tournament.
