Man Utd concluded their final home match of the season on 17/5 with a 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest. Before this match, according to English media, co-owner Jim Ratcliffe had approved a two-year agreement to keep Carrick as Man Utd's long-term coach. However, the English manager remained tight-lipped when asked about his future. "Things will become clear in the next few days. Whatever the next information is, everyone will know soon," he said.
Carrick wants Man Utd to advance to a new level after a positive season, securing third place in the premier league and a spot in the champions league after a two-season absence.
"I think there are two aspects. First is understanding where we want to go compared to where we are now and identifying the steps needed. I truly believe this is a commendable achievement and the players deserve much praise," he stated. "You always want to keep improving. The closer you get to the top of the table, the harder things become. You need significant progress, but at the same time, making that progress is much more difficult. Squad upgrades will definitely happen, not because the current squad isn't good, but because we want to keep moving forward."

When asked if the attacking trio of Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko, and Bryan Mbeumo could aim for 20 goals next season, Carrick emphasized the importance of adaptability.
"They all had a very good first season. I understand that attacking players are always judged by goals and assists. But the ability to adapt and progress through each stage of the season is also very important," the English coach noted. "Next season will be a different challenge, and maintaining form is also a challenge. However, I am optimistic about these players and believe they can improve further."
Carrick praised captain Fernandes for an excellent season, matching the premier league assist record. He also suggested that Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, and Kobbie Mainoo deserve a call-up to the England squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Key moments from Man Utd 3-2 Nottingham Forest.
Earlier, after the match, Carrick took the microphone at the center of Old Trafford, offering heartfelt thanks to the fans. "This is a great way to end the season at home," he said. "We always find a way to make things more difficult, but that's also what makes the game exciting. Old Trafford is a special place; it always creates magic. We've had many memorable moments over the years, and this season also featured big matches that everyone enjoyed."
Carrick also praised the players and coaching staff, as Man Utd secured enough points to finish third in the premier league. The English coach lauded the influence and professionalism of Casemiro, who played his final match at Old Trafford in a Man Utd shirt. Concluding his speech, he thanked the fans for their unwavering support through all the ups and downs.
"The best thing about this place is the fans. It's easy to enjoy when things are going well, but difficult times are when everyone stands together. I felt that connection from the first day I arrived here 20 years ago," the 44-year-old coach expressed. "Thank you all for a memorable season. It's wonderful to see the stadium always packed with spectators. Let's enjoy today; we've had many big moments here in the past few months and hope for many more."
