Vietnam delivered a surprise performance, launching relentless attacks during the initial 20 minutes at King Abdullah Sports City stadium. In the 11th minute, the team was awarded a penalty after referee Choi Hyun-jai consulted VAR and reviewed video footage, confirming a handball by a Jordan player inside the penalty area. Nguyen Dinh Bac converted the penalty with a powerful, low shot into the right corner, opening the scoring.
In the 41st minute, Vietnam's signature corner kick routine led to their second goal. Khuat Van Khang delivered a cross from the right flank to the far post, where Nguyen Hieu Minh tapped it in from close range, doubling the lead. This two-0 scoreline remained until the final whistle.
This marks the second consecutive time Vietnam has won their opening match at the U23 Asian Cup, following a three-1 victory over Kuwait in 2024. This achievement also represents the first time in history Vietnam has defeated Jordan in this tournament, providing a strong start to their campaign for a quarter-final berth.
