Shin received an offer from Ulsan on 28/7 and is reviewing the contract terms. If he accepts, he will lead the team for the remainder of the season until the end of 2027.
"Shin's annual salary is said to be among the highest in South Korean football," South Korean broadcaster KBS reported. "Shin is considering a fresh start by assembling a new coaching staff."

Shin Tae-yong currently serves as the Vice President of International Affairs for the Korea Football Association (KFA). He is also the honorary President of Seongnam FC in K-League 2.
The last time Shin managed a club was in 2012 at Seongnam FC. He took a break from coaching in 1/2025 after being dismissed by the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI).
Shin's reputation in South Korea is substantial. The 1970-born coach led Seongnam to the 2010 AFC Champions League title and managed South Korea's U20, U23, and senior national teams. He then coached Indonesia from 12/2020 to 12/2024, achieving several historic milestones, including advancing past the group stage of the 2023 Asian Cup, reaching the semi-finals of the 2024 U23 Asian Cup, and qualifying for the third round of 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Ulsan Hyundai has won the K-League 1 five times, including three consecutive titles in 2022, 2023, and 2024. However, they are currently 7th this season with 31 points and haven't won in their last 10 matches across all competitions. The club's management is therefore looking to replace coach Kim Pan-gon.

Kim previously managed the Malaysian national team before resigning to take over Ulsan Hyundai in 7/2024. From 4th place, Ulsan Hyundai then made a remarkable comeback to win their third consecutive K-League 1 title.
Kim Pan-gon is disappointed with the club's current handling of the situation. "I only learned about my dismissal through the media," Kim told Yonhap news agency. "They have problems with both administrative procedures and conduct."
Tomorrow, Ulsan will host Suwon FC in K-League 1. When asked if he would continue to coach, Kim replied, "Yes."
Yonhap suggests that the chaotic dismissal process is causing turmoil at Ulsan. The KFA has not received any official documentation regarding Ulsan's coaching change.
