Decoding Rashford's tattoos

Barca's new striker carries many tattoos commemorating his childhood, career, and personal milestones.

Marcus Rashford has a passion for tattoos, despite his mother's disapproval. Each tattoo holds a special meaning.

In an interview with former player Gary Neville, Rashford revealed that the tattoo on his left thigh, a tribute to important family members, is the most significant. His right thigh features places where he grew up with his grandmother and mother, two pivotal figures in his childhood. The English striker also has a tattoo on his back commemorating Saint Kitts and Nevis, his mother's homeland.

On his stomach, a tattoo of a young boy playing football under a tree symbolizes Northern Moor and Wythenshawe in Manchester, where he went to school and helped people during the Covid-19 pandemic. His left arm features a design representing the flow of time, reflecting his personal and footballing growth.

On his side, Rashford has the numbers 39, 19, and 10 tattooed, representing the three jersey numbers he wore during his career at Man Utd. Next to them is an image of the training ground and the goal he scored in his first-team debut.

Rashford is a religious man. On his right chest, he has the quote: "Nobody can judge me but God. You have to be sad to know happiness, you have to be apart to appreciate presence. God guides you in life, so every difficult path leads you to a good destination."

Rashford is also actively involved in the fight against racism. One of his most recognizable tattoos is the image of the podium at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, where two African American athletes, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, raised their fists in a protest for civil rights. He also has portraits of Nelson Mandela, Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, and Bob Marley, four iconic figures who left their mark on multiple generations.

Rashford rose through the academy ranks before making his Man Utd first-team debut in 2015. He scored 138 goals and won six titles in 426 appearances for the "Red Devils". In the latter half of the 2024-2025 season, the 27-year-old striker played for Aston Villa on loan. Barca has just signed Rashford on loan until the end of the 2025-2026 season, with an option to buy for 35 million USD.
