Late in the first half of the match at Mercedes Benz Stadium on 5/7, Musiala attempted to control a powerful pass from Michael Olise. Donnarumma rushed out to collect the ball while Willian Pacho tried to block Musiala's run. The forceful collision left the German midfielder on the ground in pain with a visibly dislocated left ankle.
Many players turned away, covering their faces with their shirts as they witnessed Musiala's injury. Donnarumma crouched down inside the penalty area. When he stood up, the 26-year-old covered his face with his shirt, seemingly in tears, and left the field looking distraught.

According to RMC, Donnarumma went to the Bayern locker room to see and check on Musiala after the match. However, the Bayern midfielder had already been taken to the hospital to assess the severity of the injury and therefore didn't see Donnarumma.
Bayern manager Vincent Kompany expressed his anger over his player's serious injury. Manuel Neuer criticized Donnarumma for a dangerous challenge that resulted in his teammate's injury. "That's a situation where you don't need to go in like that. It's reckless. He took the risk of injuring the opponent," the German goalkeeper said.
PSG manager Luis Enrique defended his player, emphasizing that Donnarumma did not intend to cause harm and wished Musiala a quick recovery. The Spanish coach prioritized ensuring Donnarumma's mental well-being for the semi-final against Real Madrid at MetLife Stadium on 9/7.
On 6/7, Bayern announced that Musiala had suffered a fractured fibula and a dislocated ankle, requiring surgery. Bayern did not specify a recovery timeframe, but according to BILD, the German midfielder is expected to be sidelined for 4 to 5 months.
Musiala, considered a German football prodigy, made his Bayern debut in 2020 at the age of 17. The midfielder has scored 63 goals in 206 appearances for Bayern and 8 goals in 40 matches for the German national team. In 2022, he became the first teenager to represent Germany at a World Cup since 1958.
