Rio and Anton Ferdinand, both born and raised in Peckham, southeast London, pursued professional football careers after training at West Ham's academy. The Ferdinand brothers faced off seven times in the Premier League between 2005 and 2012. Rio won four matches, while Anton defeated his older brother three times. Despite comparisons to his famous brother, Anton always showed respect and pride. "Without Rio as a role model, I might have gone astray in life," Anton expressed. Rio reciprocated by defending his brother, especially during the 2011 racial abuse incident with John Terry, which strained Rio's relationship with Terry.
