FIFA Club World Cup 2025 semifinal preview

A potential final clash between PSG and Real Madrid promises to ignite the FIFA Club World Cup semifinals, while Chelsea holds a significant advantage in the other match.

The semifinals will take place on July 8 and 9. Chelsea will face Fluminense, while PSG will clash with Real Madrid. The two winning teams will advance to the final at MetLife Stadium at 2 a.m. on July 14.

All four teams have reasons to dream of reaching the final. Chelsea is regaining its status as a European powerhouse, boasting a young squad known for its speed and skill. Fluminense's presence in the top four is a surprise. According to the Opta Power Rankings, the team is outside the top 100. Before the semifinals, they have a projected 14.59% chance of reaching the final and a mere 2.72% chance of winning the title. Therefore, Fluminense is likely to play with passion and determination.

The first semifinal between Chelsea and Fluminense will kick off at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey, at 2 a.m. on July 9, Hanoi time. The match is also notable for the reunion between Thiago Silva, Fluminense's center-back, and his former club, Chelsea. Silva played for Chelsea from 2020 to 2024, scoring 9 goals in 155 appearances. The Brazilian player won three titles with the club: the Champions League, the European Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

In the other semifinal, PSG is in impressive form. The Champions League winner also boasts stars capable of shining brightly when it matters most. According to Opta, the French team is the favorite to win the tournament with a 39.3% chance. Meanwhile, Real Madrid is in a rebuilding phase under coach Xabi Alonso after a disappointing season. There are positive signs as new players like Trent have integrated well, and Gonzalo Garcia is in top form. However, Real's defense has shown vulnerabilities in previous matches.

This match also marks a reunion between Mbappe and his former club. The French striker developed at Monaco before moving to PSG in the summer of 2017. During his 7 years with the Parisian club, he set the club's scoring record (256 goals) and won 15 titles.

All four teams experienced thrilling matches en route to the semifinals. Fluminense defeated Al Hilal 2-1 thanks to Hercules's 70th-minute winner after Al Hilal had equalized. Al Hilal's late efforts were thwarted by Fluminense’s resilient defense and goalkeeper Fabio’s solid performance. Chelsea also secured a last-minute victory through an own goal by Pameras.

PSG's win against Bayern is considered one of the best matches of the tournament. Forwards Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele shone at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. PSG ultimately won 2-0 despite having two players sent off. Meanwhile, Real Madrid edged Dortmund 3-2 after a tense match that went down to the wire.

The semifinals are expected to be a global football feast for fans. Ten lucky Vietnamese viewers have traveled to the US to watch the semifinals. These viewers won the "Scan the QR Code – Win a trip to the US to watch FIFA Club World Cup 2025" program organized by Budweiser.
