Harry Kane confident ahead of Bayern's clash with PSG

After defeating Flamengo in the round of 16, Harry Kane expressed confidence that Bayern Munich can overcome Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the FIFA Club World Cup quarterfinals.

Hours after PSG's 4-0 victory over Inter Miami, Bayern Munich secured their place in the quarterfinals with a 4-2 win against Flamengo. The highly anticipated match will take place at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on 5/7.

PSG are considered the favorites, having dominated their previous matches. They defeated Atletico and Inter Miami 4-0, and Seattle Sounders 2-0. Their only loss was a 1-0 defeat to Botafogo, where they rested key players. Opta's supercomputer predicts PSG as the top contender for the title, with a 20.5% chance of winning, almost double that of Bayern.

Despite this, Kane remains confident. He recalled Bayern's 1-0 victory over PSG in the Champions League group stage on 26/11/2024 at Allianz Arena.

"We played PSG earlier this season and beat them," Kane said after the Flamengo match. "We need to try and use that energy and feeling for the next game. It’s going to be difficult, but we can beat anyone when we’re at our best. Bayern have shown that in this tournament.”

Bayern's win against Flamengo was hard-fought. They took a 2-0 lead within 10 minutes, thanks to an own goal by Erick Pulgar and a goal from Kane. Gerson pulled one back for Flamengo before Leon Goretzka restored Bayern's two-goal lead. Jorginho then converted a penalty for Flamengo, but Kane sealed the 4-2 victory with a close-range finish.

"It was a tough game against a strong opponent," Kane admitted. "We started well, but every time we felt we were breaking away, they fought back and made it difficult, especially in the second half. That’s why the fourth goal was so important to give us some calmness in the last 10 minutes. We controlled the game better after that."

Highlights of the Flamengo 2-4 Bayern match.

Vincent Kompany praised Flamengo, suggesting they would be among the strongest teams in Europe. He acknowledged that the hot weather prevented Bayern from maintaining high intensity but was pleased with their resilience. "We analyzed Flamengo, now it’s PSG," he stated.

Captain Manuel Neuer added: "It’s always interesting to play against Brazilian teams. We were lucky to have a good start, but you always have to be alert against these teams. They want to have the ball and attack constantly. Today we finished well and that's important to go far. We will analyze PSG and hopefully maintain good momentum.”
