Beatrice Chebet became the first woman to run the 5,000m in under 14 minutes, finishing with a time of 13 minutes 58.06 seconds. The previous record of 14 minutes 0.21 seconds was set by Ethiopia's Gudaf Tsegay at the 2023 Diamond League.

Agnes Ngetich of Kenya finished second with a personal best of 14 minutes 1.29 seconds. Former world record holder Gudaf Tsegay finished third with a time of 14 minutes 4.41 seconds.
"I'm very happy", Chebet told Olympics after setting the record. "I came to Eugene to set a world record. I'm so happy to be the first athlete to run under 14 minutes".
Earlier this year, Chebet also made history as the first woman to run 5km under 14 minutes, clocking 13 minutes 54 seconds at the Cursa dels Nassos race in Barcelona. The Kenyan runner also holds the women-only 5,000m road race world record of 14 minutes 13 seconds, also set in Barcelona in 2023, and is the 2024 Olympic champion with a time of 14 minutes 28 seconds.
In the final event of the day, Faith Kipyegon won the 1,500m race with a time of 3 minutes 48.68 seconds, breaking her own previous record of 3 minutes 49.04 seconds set at the 2023 Florence Diamond League.

Diribe Welteji of Ethiopia finished second with 3 minutes 51.44 seconds, followed by Australia's Jessical Hull with 3 minutes 52.67 seconds.
Kipyegon recently just missed running a sub-4-minute mile, finishing with a time of 4 minutes 6.42 seconds at a Nike-sponsored event. This time was faster than her own previous record of 4 minutes 7.64 seconds set at the 2023 Diamond League, but it won't be recognized as a world record due to the assistance of male pacers.
In the men's pole vault, Armand Duplantis remained unrivaled, clearing 6 meters. However, he failed all three attempts at 6.29m and couldn't break his own world record of 6.28m set at the 2025 All Star Perche three weeks prior.
